
I pledge to take the following actions to conserve water and keep our rivers clean
Following are a number of ideas for ways you can help improve water quality.

Outside & in the yard:
- Install a rain barrel
- Plant a native tree
- Install a rain garden
- Reduce pesticides
- Use natural fertilizers
- Plant native plants
- Wash cars in the yard
- Sweep rather than hose
- Pick up and dispose of pet waste
- Use sand for oil spills or melting ice
- Water only at night
- Only Rain down the Drain. Never dump items down the storm drains.
- Remove invasive plants (Amur Honeysuckle, garlic mustard, Bradford Pear Trees)
In the kitchen:
- Buy organic produce
- Use eco-friendly cleaners
- Use natural ant repellents
- Visit a local refill store
- Compost food waste
In the laundry room:
- Run full laundry loads
- Use phosphate-free detergents
- Use a filter or special bag to filter microfibers
- Use wool balls in dryer instead of dryer sheets
In the basement & garage:
- Properly dispose of chemicals
- Use non-toxic glues
- Use cedar chips, not moth balls
- Dispose of paint properly
In the bathroom:
- Never flush unused medicines
- Buy fragrance-free products
- Visit a local refill store
- Avoid toxic drain cleaners
- Turn off water while shaving or brushing teeth
- Reduce your shower time
- Install water saving faucets
- Install a low-flow toilet
In the community:
- Connect with FLOW
- Volunteer for clean ups, tree plants and other service events
- Talk to others about the pledge
- Host a presention from FLOW
- Take a walk and pick up the trash in your neighborhood
